Just got engaged? Congratulations! We’d love you to get married in one of our churches.
Marrying in church is personal, meaningful, spiritual and beautiful. Unique and special things become part of your marriage, on the day itself and beyond. Our churches will always be there for you throughout your marriage.
A wedding is a wonderful celebration, and in our parish we love helping people start their married life together. In the Bible, God’s love for his people is likened to a marriage covenant. We pray that your marriage will help you realise the full extent of God’s love for you, even as you promise to love each other ‘for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness, in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part’.
Anyone who would like to marry within our official parish boundary is entitled to get married at either St Boniface or St Johns church. You are also legally entitled to get married if:
- Your parents or grandparents were married in the parish
- From your birth, one of your parents lived in the parish for at least 6 months, or regularly went to services in our parish for at least 6 months.
- You were christened (baptised) or confirmed in one of our church buildings
- You have lived in the parish for at least 6 months, or have been to church services in our parish regularly for at least 6 months.
In preparing for marriage it is important that you come to our services for a period of 6 months or more. In addition, we anticipate you attending our alpha course and that you attend three marriage preparation sessions.
Our vicar Graeme has a very particular role to play in your celebration. Together a service that reflects the churches tradition and your modern experience can be developed to tell your unique story in special and personal way.
